Welcome . . . to the Luria Learning blog.
My
name is Sacha Luria. I hope you find the information on this blog
down-to-earth, easy to incorporate in your classroom and inspirational.
My biggest pleasure is helping teachers, like you, really make a
difference in students' lives!
This blog was created to share techniques that will work tomorrow in your own classroom.
I am constantly devouring new books, observing other master teachers
and learning myself. Thank you for taking the time to read and try out
these methods with your students!
I have been featured in print and radio for my teaching:
- Disney Radio - For successes teaching inner city students to become lifelong readers
- NPR - For working effectively with students with behavioral/emotional disorders
- Oakland Tribune for my success in teaching reading to ESL kids who were on average more than 4 years behind grade level
If you are new to the blog,
I believe you will find many different ideas that you can implement in
your classroom. You will find videos, sentence frames and ideas to bring
into your classroom.
Do you want to learn even more?
I offer continuing education classes through HOL and Antioch
University. You can take both 3 and 5 credit classes to increase your
skills, move up the pay scale and take your practice to the next level!
Hundreds
of students have taken my classes in the last 5 years and enjoyed them
greatly. Together we will both learn new techniques and continue to grow
as teachers.

What Students Say . . .
The
most helpful parts of the Saving Time course were the required
exercises. Taking a closer look at how I spend my time each week, opened
my eyes to seeing that I am not using my time wisely outside of work.
It was also very helpful to pinpoint my energy boosters, so when I am in
the middle of working on a task, or in the middle of a busy day, I can
turn to one of these things to give me an extra spark to finish the job.

This is my first online course I have taken from The Heritage Institute. I found the format and flexibility very appealing. I also thought the teacher was supportive and thorough. She responded promptly to my emails and assignments.
Her assignments were all applicable assignments that a working teacher
could learn and grow from instead of busy work without a purpose. I
was very pleased.

One of the top 5 classes I've taken
I’d
like to express my appreciation for you and your class. Rarely do I
take an online class where I feel like I actually learned something I
could use and this one is in the top five classes I have taken since I have become an educator.
I was really not expecting to get so much out of the course as I did,
and for that I thank you. I also am impressed by how quickly you got
back to me as I turned in assignments. It was fun to check my email and
see that you had responded, and were positive in that response as well.
My only regret is that I didn’t notice that I could request more
feedback until now! I hope you enjoy the rest of your summer and school
year. - Clint Hill, English Department Head
Most classes are worth three 500 or 400 level Professional continuing education quarter credit credits or 30 clock hours. (Antioch
University Seattle is accredited by the Commission on Institutions of
Higher Education of the North Central Association of Colleges and
Schools, 30 North La Salle St. #2400, Chicago, IL 60602-2504. Antioch
has held accreditation continuously since 1975. )
- Students have taken my courses and used them for professional development or credential renewals from many states and countries including California, New York, Washington, Wyoming, Montana, Oregon, Illinois, Colorado and Ohio.
- If you are not sure if you can use these credits, call your schools HR department and ask if they accept schools accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. The majority do.
